Tarangire National Park: The Paradise of Elephants

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife destinations. It is best known for its large elephant population. As a result, many visitors call it the “Paradise of Elephants.”

Getting there

Tarangire National Park is easy to reach by both road and air.

By Road: The park is about 121 kilometers from Arusha. A fully tarmacked road connects the city to the park.

By Air: Visitors can fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, which is about 46 kilometers from Arusha. In addition, charter flights operate from Arusha to Kuro Airstrip inside the park.

Game drives are the most popular activity in Tarangire National Park. They are especially rewarding during the dry season.

Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best chances to spot predators. Meanwhile, the midday hours are ideal for watching elephants gather around water sources.

For a different experience, visitors can join a night drive. This activity reveals the park’s nocturnal wildlife under the beam of a spotlight.
