Things to see and do when visiting Serengeti wildebeest migration camping safari

Experience the awe-inspiring Great Migration in Serengeti National Park, where millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains in a dramatic annual cycle—from the calving season in the southern Ndutu region early in the year, to the thrilling river crossings at the Grumeti and Mara Rivers in the north. Daily game drives offer the chance to encounter the Big Five and cheetahs in their natural habitat, while a sunrise hot air balloon safari provides a breathtaking aerial view of the herds. Stay in authentic mobile tented camps that follow the migration, immersing you in the sounds of the wild, and explore the landscape further on guided walking safaris. Evenings bring sundowners and bush dinners under open skies. You can also visit Olduvai Gorge, known as the Cradle of Humankind for its significant early human fossils, and enjoy a cultural visit to a local Maasai village to learn about their rich traditions and way of life.

We saw an incredible variety of wildlife, including leopards, lions, large herds of 25 to 30 elephants, a serval cat, and so many other animals. We were especially lucky to spot a rhino, which made the experience even more memorable. It was truly the best safari we have ever done, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Great opportunity for adventure & travels

The Great Migration is one of nature’s greatest paradoxes: timing is crucial, yet the animals move according to instincts no one can predict with certainty. The wildebeest—joined by zebra and antelope—will eventually cross the Mara River, and the rains will prompt them to seek fresh grazing, but exactly when these moments unfold remains unknown.

Since 1998, we have been planning Wildebeest Migration safaris across Africa, helping thousands of travelers position themselves in the right place at the right time, and at the right price.
